It all started with the first note on the outer banks and ended with three chords and the truth.

About Slacktide

Slacktide is a gritty blend of beach country, alt-rock, and independent soul, born from the salt air and slow tides of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The band is made up of longtime friends and collaborators Mike Garrison and Trent Robinson, who first crossed paths while playing music together at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Back then, they were part of the band Money Penny—an outfit that would go on to include musicians like Mike Meadows (Taylor Swift) and Tripper Ryder (Randy Houser).

After college, Mike and Trent relocated to Washington, D.C., keeping their musical connection alive through the years. In 2018, they felt the pull of the coast stronger than ever and decided it was time to create something new—music rooted in the place they loved most. Slacktide was born from that desire: a project dedicated to capturing the raw beauty, laid-back rhythm, and unshakable spirit of the Outer Banks.

Guided by the philosophy that “three chords and the truth” is the foundation of great songwriting, Slacktide crafts songs that are both personal and universal—stories soaked in saltwater and sunshine, shaped by long drives down coastal highways and quiet nights under Carolina stars. With an honest voice and a style that defies easy categorization, Slacktide invites listeners to slow down, tune in, and ride the current.
